Graham Potter says he’s ready to make managerial return amidst links to Manchester United | OneFootball

Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter and reported Manchester United managerial target Graham Potter has admitted he is now prepared to get back into the dugout, following a lengthy spell outside top-flight management.

Potter was sacked from his role at Chelsea in March 2023, after a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.

He lasted less than seven months at Stamford Bridge, with the loss vs. Villa his 11th in 31 games. By the time he parted ways with the Blues, they had dropped to 11th place in the Premier League standings and were 12 points adrift of the Champions League sports.

Potter was Chelsea’s first managerial appointment immediately after the Todd Boehly takeover and oversaw a whooping £323m outlay in the 2023 January transfer window.

The 49-year-old has been linked to United at various points, with there being suggestions that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS retain some admiration for him, especially as a result of the work he did at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Earlier this year in April, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Potter was “seriously interested” in succeeding the under-pressure Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

It’s believed that he may have even turned down the chance to take over the reins at Ajax in the hope of becoming the United manager.

Potter recently spoke to The Telegraph and noted that is now ready to take up another opportunity – an admission that may not necessarily bode well for Ten Hag, whose future with the Red Devils remains uncertain.

Potter told the newspaper, “I’ve felt ready to return for a little while.”

“It still has to be the right thing, but I’m excited for it. I’m excited to hear what the opportunities are, and I’ll take each one and judge it on its merits.”

He divulged that he is eager to become a better coach in his next job.

“It wasn’t so long ago that Eddie Howe left Bournemouth after they had been relegated, he took 18 months out and now he’s at Newcastle doing brilliant things.”

“If you look at Unai Emery, how he was received after leaving Arsenal and look at what he’s doing now. This is the job, the challenge of football. I see it [Chelsea] as an unbelievable experience that I’ve had, it didn’t go as well as I’d have liked. I have to take responsibility for that, but I think I’m better for it and I’ll be a better coach, for sure.”

Meanwhile, United return to action on Sunday when they host Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur. After recent frustrating results, nothing short of a victory is likely to appease the club’s supporters.
