Pep Guardiola has said Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is ‘getting better’ in his recovery from an ankle injury but is unsure on the timeframe of his return.
Haaland has not featured since sustaining an ankle issue in the FA Cup win at Bournemouth last month. The Norwegian is facing a race against time to feature before the end of the campaign, as City chase Champions League qualification and FA Cup success.
Guardiola’s side will also compete in the Club World Cup this summer and the Spaniard is hopeful the club’s leading scorer will be available.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest, Guardiola provided an update on Haaland’s recovery.
“He is getting better and he is injured and been involved (off the pitch) as well,” the City boss said at his pre-match press conference.
“He can be 10 more years here and I am sure he wants more than anyone else to be in the Champions League next season.
“He feels better but I don’t know when (he will be back). The injury is not a comfortable one, I would say. He is not a small guy, but he is getting better. We will see in the next days how he is.”
Guardiola also confirmed that Ederson has returned to training after a groin issue. However, the clash with Forest may come too soon for the Brazilian.
“We’ll see. [He] is coming back training a little bit. But I don’t know if he’ll be ready for this game, hopefully the next one.”
