Pep Guardiola has suggested Manchester City will target a holding midfielder and central defender in January after admitting his squad ‘needs help’.
City secured just their second win in 14 games on Sunday afternoon after a 2-0 victory at Leicester City. Savinho and Erling Haaland were on target for the Premier League champions, who earned a much needed three points at the King Power Stadium.
The Citizens have struggled for results in recent weeks with Guardiola having cited the absences of Rodri, Ruben Dias and John Stones as problematic. City are 11 points adrift of leaders Liverpool and four points from the Champions League places as things stand.
Speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, Guardiola discussed the difficulty of making signings in January but suggested City could be active to strengthen the areas in need.
“I don’t know. Kevin [de Bruyne] is back but we need more in the middle and the back four, we have struggled with full-backs and central defenders.
“In some positions we need help. The squad is good, the problem is we don’t have the squad and that makes everything difficult. When we’re all together we’re the team we were but with important players out for weeks and months it’s so difficult.
“I thought central defenders would be fit all season but we have struggled – holding midfield and central defenders we need help. The market is the market it’s not easy, it’s expensive so we will see what the club can do.”
