Hansi Flick explains meeting with Barcelona predecessor Xavi | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an insight into how his recent sit-down with Blaugrana predecessor Xavi Hernández came about.

This comes after the pair turned heads across Catalunya’s capital on Friday.

After rumours began to circulate that Flick and Xavi had convened for a casual meeting, the latter took to social media to confirm as much.

Alongside a photo of the pair, taken earlier in the day, Xavi attached the caption:

‘Good luck Hansi and visca el Barca’.

Speaking to the media ahead of Barcelona’s post-international break return to action on Sunday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his meeting with the man whom he replaced in the dugout in Catalunya’s capital was today put to Hansi Flick.

And, in his response, the German tactician went on to reveal that it was he who reached out to Xavi, during the recent event to commemorate Blaugrana icon Andrés Iniesta’s retirement:

“When I was Germany coach I had a good relationship with Xavi. Now the situation is different and I waited a bit to contact him. I took advantage of Iniesta’s event to ask him to have a coffee together.”
