Hansi Flick expects Leon Goretzka to be available for Germany’s clash with Armenia on Sunday despite the shocking challenge he was subjected to against Liechtenstein.

Only seven minutes had elapsed in Thursday’s World Cup qualifier in Wolfsburg when Jens Hofer crashed his elevated foot into the face of the Bayern Munich midfielder.

The horror tackle saw Hofer sent off and allowed İlkay Gündoğan to put Die Mannschaft ahead from the spot before they cruised to a 9-0 victory.

Goretzka was able to continue after receiving treatment, but was replaced by Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus at half time.

Asked about the player’s condition afterwards, Germany head coach Flick gave a positive assessment.

“He’s fine,” the former Bayern supremo said.

And Flick was similarly upbeat about the 26-year-old’s prospects of featuring in the final Group J game in Yerevan.

“I assume that he can go to Armenia,” he said.

Bayern will be hoping that their old boss will take no unnecessary risks with the midfielder, especially with nothing but an unbeaten record on the line for the already-qualified Germans.
