In the last few months, FC Barcelona have been laying a lot of emphasis on renewing the contracts of some of their most important players to ensure their continuity at the Blaugrana club for years to come.

Following the successful renewals of important players like Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Gavi, and Pau Cubarsi, the Catalans yesterday announced the renewal of Inigo Martinez till 2026.

Now, Robert Lewandowski looks to be the player next in line to get his renewal, especially as he has already reached the number of games that will result in an automatic one-year renewal.

Now, another surprise player might be in for a renewal offer from Barcelona, as Mundo Deportivo reports that Hansi Flick has already given the nod for Wojciech Szczesny’s renewal for another season.

Deco was already in favour of the Pole’s renewal and had allowed the head coach to make a decision in this regard. Now, with Flick’s approval, only the goalkeeper’s own acceptance is left to make his stay beyond June 2025 a reality.

The Polish goalie arrived at Barcelona in September after the serious injury suffered by Marc Andre Ter Stegen. Before that, he had been enjoying retirement since the end of the UEFA EURO 2024.

Thus, he needed some months to get back into shape, but since the start of 2025, he has established himself as the clear starter for Hansi Flick, to Inaki Pena’s detriment, and has already accumulated 15 starts.

He has not ruled out remaining at the Catalan club for another season but still wants to wait till the end of this season to make a final decision in this regard. But things are looking favorable to his stay, as he revealed in a recent interview that he is open to anything, especially as his family is enjoying their time in Spain.

If an agreement is reached with Barcelona for a renewal, the Blaugrana side will not sign another goalkeeper in the summer. This will also lead to a lot of uncertainty for Inaki Pena’s future at the club, and it is looking increasingly likely he will depart for another side, with the Turkish side Galatasaray one of the interested teams.
