Hansi Flick has named his Germany squad for the upcoming friendlies against Japan and France.

Goalkeepers: Oliver Baumann, Marc-André ter Stegen, Kevin Trapp

Defenders: Robin Gosens, Benjamin Henrichs, Antonio Rüdiger, Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle, Jonathan Tah, Malick Thiaw

Midfielders/Attackers: Emre Can, Joshua Kimmich, Felix Nmecha, Julian Brandt, Pascal Groß, Ilkay Gündogan, Jonas Hofmann, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Kevin Schade, Leroy Sané, Kai Havertz, Serge Gnabry, Niclas Füllkrug

Perhaps the biggest surprise here, although it’s no shock, is the nomination of Brighton’s Pascal Groß. The 32-year-old has been consistently one of Germany’s best midfielders over the last six years, but has been constantly overlooked.

There’s also no room for Bayern Munich duo Leon Goretzka or Thomas Müller. RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner has also missed out on the latest Germany squad, while Brentford’s Kevin Schade has again been nominated.

The upcoming games against Japan and France are huge for Germany and Flick after failing to win any of their last three friendlies: drawing Ukraine, and losing against Poland and Colombia.
