Hansi Flick sends a clear message to UEFA and FIFA over excessive workload on footballers | OneFootball

The topic of excessive workload on footballers owing to the relentless fixture calendar put forth by UEFA and FIFA has become a major talking point in recent weeks.

The calendar is full of matches and player injuries are multiplying as a result of this overloaded schedule and lack of proper rest for footballers.

Far from resolving the situation, UEFA and FIFA have only increased the burden by adding more matches in the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup, while there is also a rise in the international fixtures.

Flick’s message to UEFA and FIFA

Amid growing concerns within the footballing community about the toll that such a heavy fixture calendar is taking on players, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has urged the governing bodies to take action to protect the footballers.

“UEFA and FIFA have to look after the players,” said the Barcelona head coach, as quoted by SPORT.

“It’s not the best situation for the players, we all love football, watching the games and the players playing to their full potential and I think the number of games should be reduced,” Flick further added.

Players considering going on strike

Flick’s comments come after several prominent footballers have raised their concerns and even suggested that the idea of going on a strike is being considered.

Manchester City superstar Rodri was one of those to speak out on the issue recently and has received support from many of his peers, including Barcelona’s own Jules Kounde and Real Madrid veteran Dani Carvajal.

Managers like Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola have also spoken about the problem and now, Flick, too, has sent a clear message to the governing bodies.

After all, Barcelona have felt the brunt of this workload, having recently lost players like Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo, among others, to injuries.
