Although they were unable to mark this event with a win, last night was still a significant one for FC Barcelona.

The Blaugranes celebrated their league win with their own fans after wrapping up the title at Cornella-El Prat with a win against Espanyol, and it was also the last time they played at Montjuic, as they have no other home games scheduled this season and they are set to return to Camp Nou next season.

Unfortunately, the Catalans were unable to get the better of Villarreal and were defeated 2-3. However, having already secured the title, Hansi Flick was not too angry with his players for this loss.

As SPORT has reported, the German coach talked to the press after celebrating the La Liga title with the fans at the stadium.

Despite the defeat, Hansi Flick was quick to forgive his players and praised the effort made by the team:

“[It’s easy to] Forgive the defeat because it’s a day to celebrate, the players have done a fantastic job and I’m very happy. Of course, I don’t like the result, but we also had chances to win and we’ve been celebrating the league title these past few days.”

The German coach went on to highlight how the emotions shown by the fans affected him:

“When I saw the faces of the fans, we saw people crying, it’s a huge feeling.”

The Blaugrana trainer went on to praise his team for its on and off the pitch behavior:

“We have to improve many things, but we have potential, and from the beginning, I saw that this team never gave up, this is the attitude, and that’s why the fans are happy and satisfied with the team. When I saw the parade, how the players celebrated… It was very beautiful.”

Hansi Flick went on to highlight the highly integrated nature of the entire club:

“We’ve had a great time from the start. When we began the season, the feeling was that we were at home. It’s a great feeling, but it’s true: with Deco, with Bojan, the staff, the whole team is connected. The workers, the kitmen, the cooks… It’s been fantastic work, and I’m proud to be part of this team and this club.”

The German tactician also gave his opinion on how Barcelona is more than a club:

“Of course, Barça is ‘more than a club’, you can feel it in every person, in the president himself, who lives for Barça, and everyone gives their best. Everyone knows exactly what they have to do. And you see the attitude of the fans, the mentality, Barcelona, Catalonia… I’m happy to be part of this.”

Marc-Andre ter Stegen returned to the pitch last night, but was unable to avoid a defeat for his side. However, the Blaugrana manager believed playing him was still the best decision:

“Marc is our captain and also deserved to play. I think it was the best decision.”

Hansi Flick admitted that he wants the team reinforced ahead of the next season:

“Yes, I do know what I want to strengthen the squad and make it better, but we’ll talk about it from now on. There are always things that can be improved, but in the end, it has been a fantastic season.”

The German tactician also identified the game against Atletico Madrid in December as the turning point of the season:

“We lost, but we played very well. I told the players that if we played at that level, everything was possible. We never gave up, and we saw the response day by day.”

Lastly, the Barcelona coach highlighted how important Deco and Bojan are for him and the team:

“He has been very important, both he and Deco are always here. Bojan knows everything about the club, about La Masia, about the reserve team… When we need players… He is very important for me, he knows everything about this club, and for me, it’s very good to have this information because I’ve learned things every day.”

There is no doubt that Deco and Bojan also deserve a lot of credit for the good performances put in by Barcelona this season. However, Hansi Flick is still the one who led his team to the La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup success this season, and hopefully, will again provide the fans with reasons to enjoy and pride in the team next year as well.
