Although the results point to a very good start to the 2024-25 season for FC Barcelona, there is no doubt that Hansi Flick has had a very difficult start to his career at the Catalan club.
The German coach has had to cope with the absence of some of the most important Barcelona players, including the likes of Gavi, Ronald Araujo, and Frenkie de Jong, and at this moment in time has up to eight players unavailable due to injuries.
Still, he made it clear in the last press conference that he will not look to make any excuses and will try to get the results irrespective of the adversity being faced by the team.
Midfield is one of the areas where the injuries have had the most pointed impact. Thus, he will have to adapt his available resources to minimize the impact of these absences in the middle of the pitch.
One of the options that Flick has already used for this purpose is that of Eric Garcia, who started the game against Monaco in the midfield before being expelled with a red card.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Flick was asked about Garcia’s position as he addressed the press before the game against Villarreal. In response, the German tactician shared how he has convinced the defender to give a sacrifice for the team:
“I’ve spoken with him, because he knows the situation we’re in. He likes to play as a center-back, but right now we need him as a ‘6’. We have to think about the team, and he’s done very well in training.”
Eric Garcia will have to serve his suspension for the upcoming game in the UEFA Champions League. However, he will be available for the next match in La Liga, and judging from Flick’s comments, he might once again play as one of the two pivots in the midfield against Villarreal.
