Harry Kane hailed a “perfect” night after marking his 100th England cap with two goals at Wembley - then hinted he could end his career playing in midfield.

Kane scored two second-half goals as England beat Finland 2-0 at Wembley to continue their 100 per cent start to their Nations League campaign, and to Lee Carsley’s spell in interim charge.

The Bayern Munich striker was presented with a golden cap by Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole - two other members of the England hundred club - ahead of kick-off, and had his young family in attendance at the national stadium.

“As a striker of course on my 100th cap it wanted to score a goal and make the night as memorable as possible,” said Kane, who also had an effort ruled out for offside during the first-half. “To score a couple of good goals, a couple of nice finishes and help the team win 2-0 was pretty much perfect. It was proud night for me and the family.

“It was really special. My son wasn’t really having it before the game. He had a bit of a meltdown, it was a bit past his bedtime. He didn’t fancy coming out in the rain.

“They are special memories when they're older when we can look back and see them on the pitch. Everything I do wouldn’t have been possible without them. I’ve had some special nights in an England shirt and that was right up there.”

The strikes took Kane’s tally as England’s record goalscorer to 68 goals and ahead of the game he revealed he has set his sights on reaching 100 before his international career has done.

However, the 31-year-old also admitted he will have to adapt his game as he ages and hinted that his much-lauded creative abilities could even see him drop into midfield towards the end of his playing days.

“I feel I could play as No9 or No10, even areas in midfield,” he added. “It depends on the manager I’m playing with.

“Who knows, later in my career a manager might want to use me deeper to use my passing to hurt teams. But now I want to keep scoring the goals I need to score to play as a No9.”
