Harry Wilson praises 'fantastic' Neco Williams after performance against USMNT | OneFootball

Harry Wilson has lavished praise on Wales teammate Neco Williams for his performance against the United States on Monday just hours after he received the news of his grandfather's passing.

Williams put in an energetic performance in Wales' 1-1 draw with USMNT at the World Cup, particularly contributing in attack during a much improved second half performance. Gareth Bale netted the equaliser late on in the game to earn a 1-1 draw and they now turn attention to a match against Iran on Friday.

Wilson played a big part too, but spoke particularly about Williams' performance and the quality of it even after receiving a call from his mum with the sad news.

"Neco showed great courage and bravery to play the game," he said.

"Everybody knows to lose a family member is never easy but for it to happen on the eve of his first ever World Cup game, and then to put in the performance that he did as well, I thought he was fantastic."

Wilson revealed in the days since that the Welsh players, who are a notoriously tight-knit group, have rallied around Williams in order to try and help him process the news.

"The lads got around him to try to make him feel as comfortable as we could. He had a lot of emotion but to put in the performance he did after the news he received less than 24 hours before, I thought it was great from him."

Wales go into their second group game in hope of a win over Iran, who lost 6-2 to England in their opener, to strengthen their position in the group and strengthen their hopes of a place in the last 16, with the match taking place on Friday. England and the US meet later in the day.
