Rhys Williams is currently on loan at Blackpool from Liverpool, as he looks to get senior minutes under his belt this season.

Williams helped Liverpool out during the covid season with them well short on centre-halves, but it was apparent that he needed more game time and senior minutes to keep developing and improving as a player.

Indeed, with Liverpool’s senior players eventually returning from injury, Williams has embarked on loan deals away in the time since, with his move to Blackpool the latest example of that.

So far, he has made 11 appearances from the start and a further three off of the bench in the league for Blackpool this year, as per Whoscored, meaning he is getting the senior minutes to keep improving that Liverpool want, but the next big question is does he have a future with the Reds?

It’s perhaps too early to say in all honesty. He’s still a young player and whilst it’s good he is featuring often for Blackpool he’s perhaps not yet at a level where he is an outstanding defender in the Championship, and he still has things to work on.

He’s clearly a good defender but Liverpool have world class players in that position, and he will know the sort of levels he needs to reach in the time ahead in his career.

For now, though, all he can do is keep playing football and keep working hard, and perhaps he’ll force his way into the reckoning at Liverpool further down the line.
