Danny Rohl has been urged to bench Ike Ugbo for Sheffield Wednesday's trip to Swansea City, with the striker in the midst of a barren run infront of goal after returning on a permanent basis.

The frontman was integral as Wednesday pulled off a dramatic great escape to secure Championship survival last season, where he found the back of the net on seven occasions.

Indeed, no player within the Owls ranks outscored Ugbo throughout the entirety of the 2023/24 second-tier season, even though the Canada international only arrived in January on loan from French side Troyes after a brief spell with Cardiff City.

Ugbo certainly earned his stripes at Hillsborough, and Wednesayites rejoiced when he returned to the club permanently during the summer transfer window in a reported £2.5 million deal.

However, the marquee signing is yet to hit the ground running following his return to the Steel City.

Ugbo is still waiting for his first league strike after nine matches, and he spurned a glorious goalscoring opportunity in Wednesday's 2-0 home defeat to Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Danny Rohl urged to swap Ike Ugbo for Jamal Lowe at Swansea City

Supporters have been asking increasing questions of Ugbo, who has flattered to deceive so far this season but still remains with the trust of Rohl for the time being.

Wednesday will be looking to return to winning ways when they host Swansea City tomorrow night, so we asked our Owls fan pundit Patrick McKenna what changes he would consider making for the fixture.

Patrick believes that Ugbo, who has started five times for Wednesday this term, needs to be dropped for fellow summer arrival Jamal Lowe.

"In regards to a change I would make for the Swansea game on Tuesday, I would bring in Jamal Lowe upfront in place of Ike Ugbo," Patrick told Football League World.

"On Saturday, he was presented with a gilt-edged chance to get a goal, get the confidence up and get a run going on, but you could just see after that his confidence dropped even more.

"It is a difficult one. I understand Danny Rohl kept him on the pitch a bit longer because we've spent money on him and he wants to show a bit of faith in him, I think it's easy for us fans to just say 'drop him, he isn't scoring\.

"But at the same time, Jamal Lowe deserves a start. I would've considered maybe saying to start Smith over Ugbo, but he came on as a substitute on Saturday and he missed a few easy chances.

"At the stage where we were 2-0 down, it might not have changed the outcome of the game but certainly if he had taken his chances to get us back to 2-1 it would've been helpful.

"So I think with Lowe, he hasn't got that many starts so I'd like to see what he can do. Can he bag a goal or two? It will be interesting to see what happens but that would be my preferred change for Tuesday night."

Danny Rohl may not lose faith in Ike Ugbo at Sheffield Wednesday just yet

Despite the growing discontentment among supporters, Rohl is still convinced that Ugbo will come good before long. The German boss has publicly reiterated his faith in the 26-year-old, and he believes that the goals will begin to flow once his side creates more chances.

"We know what he can do and we will keep going on this," Rohl told The Star after the Burnley match.

"We know the moment will come and he will score. You know as a striker it is always hard when you don't score and today he had a big chance - but this is football.

"I think this is our job, we stay together. We win together, we lose together and we improve together. We will come through and the momentum will come back of course.

"I think what we can do is create more and more chances. This is what I can do with the players and when we look back since I arrived, we came many times to this topic.

"If we create more and more chances will will have a better chance to score. Today we had a better xG than them but the result is all that is important and the result is 2-0 to Burnley."
