Speaking at Olympique de Marseille’s pre-match press conference before facing FC Nantes at the Stade Vélodrome in Ligue 1 on Sunday, head coach Roberto De Zerbi addressed a perceived dip in form for his side’s top scorer Mason Greenwood (23). Despite scoring 14 goals in 23 matches this season, observers at OM have remarked a downturn in the Englishman’s impact in recent games for Les Phocéens. At the presser attended by Get French Football News, De Zerbi said that he “doesn’t know,” if Greenwood’s latest performances could be considered as a dip in form, but stated that “he’s doing a good job, he shouldn’t rest on his laurels but should be striving for more.”The Italian added “He has both technical and moral qualities, he’s a smart lad. I speak to him every other day so we can always try and get the best out of him. He has the luck of having a very present father. He Know’s it. I talk with his dad every other day and we try to really help him progress and reach another level.”Geoffroy Kondogbia was asked a similar question about Greenwood, simply relpying “No not at all, I think he is a really key player of the team. He is an instinctive and creative player, and the fact that we are talking about him proves we need his qualities. He has a really calm nature in the dressing room.”The Englishman joined the club this summer from Manchester United in a deal worth around €31.5m and was one of the league’s best attacking players at the beginning of the season. The former Red Devil has been rejuvenating his career at the Stade Vélodrome since his departure from England. The striker was charged with in 2022 with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault. He was subsequently frozen out at Manchester United and spent the following season on loan at Getafe. All charges have since been discontinued with the player in question denying all allegations.GFFN | George Boxall – Reporting from La Commanderie, Marseille.
