With his time at Lille OSC drawing to a close, Jonathan David (24) now has to make a vital choice for his next destination. After five years in Ligue 1, including a title-winning campaign in 2020-2021, the Canadian international is now the subject of interest from some of Europe’s top clubs. Speaking this week in a press conference translated by L’Équipe, Canada men’s national team manager Jesse Marsch has said he has spoken to both the player and his agent, and want’s the player to join a club where he’ll receive plenty of playing time.David, who scored 19 goals in all competitions for Les Dogues this season, is attracting interest from Juventus, Napoli, as well as Premier League outfits Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. His next destination remains unclear, though his agent has held preliminary talks with several clubs. The player himself is currently on holiday and could feature for Canada in the 2025 Gold Cup (June 14 – July 6) before joining his new club.“I spoke with his agent on Tuesday and I’ll speak with Jonathan this week. He’s on a one-week holiday – well deserved, considering how many matches he’s played and the performances he’s put in,” said Marsch. “Knowing Johnny, he’ll want to play. He’ll want to be at the best club possible and fight for trophies in Europe – but he’ll also want to be on the pitch. That’s the most important thing.”“It wouldn’t be good for him to go somewhere and just sit on the bench, without minutes to stay sharp. Especially not with the World Cup in a year. I trust that he and his team will find the right solution – and I’m confident they’ll make the right decision.”GFFN | George Boxall
