An insight into the reasoning behind Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi’s decision to reject a move to England with Liverpool has today been forthcoming.

The name of midfielder Zubimendi of course took its place front and centre in the transfer chatter across Europe for several weeks earlier in the summer.

This came after word surfaced that the aforementioned Liverpool had set their sights firmly on his signature.

Amid an ongoing search for reinforcements in the middle of the park, the Anfield brass identified the Spanish international as the ideal profile.

Upon further claims mounting that the Reds were ready to pay his €60 million release clause, the transfer, in turn, began to look like something of a formality.

And yet, when all was said and done, Liverpool found themselves empty-handed.

This came after Zubimendi himself came to the decision to knock back the advances of Arne Slot’s side, in favour of staying put at Anoeta.

And, on Saturday, an insight into precisely why has arrived.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s La Liga season opener this weekend, Imanol was drawn on his star midfielder’s Liverpool snub.

And Real Sociedad’s headmaster went on to explain:

“We have to be proud of Zubimendi, he said no to Liverpool despite [the] big money they offered him. For me Real Sociedad is the biggest club, and I believe Zubimendi thought the same so he decided to reject Liverpool’s bid.”
