Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has come in for heavy criticism, owing to his latest showing in the appearance of the Blaugrana.

De Jong, for his part, was introduced off the bench last night, as Barcelona made the trip to Balaídos for a La Liga meeting with Celta Vigo.

En route to a late collapse on the part of Hansi Flick’s men, however, the Dutchman struggled to make his presence felt.

De Jong, in fact, was widely targeted by the Barca faithful post-match, amid questions over his commitment and passivity.

Many went as far as to take to the comments sections of his social media accounts, to call for the 27-year-old to depart Catalunya’s capital at the earliest opportunity.

And such criticism has since been added to by an altogether high-profile media presence in Barcelona.

Speaking on his official Twitch platform in the aftermath of last night’s 2-2 result in Vigo, Gerard Romero of Jijantes hit out at De Jong, sniping:

“De Jong can go back to the national team with his friend Ronald Koeman, but he shouldn’t play a lot here.”
