Nicolas Jackson has made a brilliant start to the season but former Liverpool player Stephen Warnock has highlighted one thing he thinks the striker does to much.

The Blues have exceeded expectations and currently find themselves second in the league, just two points behind leaders Liverpool after Sunday’s win against Brentford.

Enzo Maresca has managed to improve a number of Chelsea players at the start of the season and the rewards of that are certainly being reaped on the pitch.

Cole Palmer, Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo have been brilliant for the Blues this season, but Jackson also falls into that category.

The 23-year-old was heavily criticised for the amount of chances he missed last season, despite still scoring 14 league goals in his debut campaign.

Jackson has shown real signs of improvement this season, especially with his finishing and Thierry Henry believes he’s on his way to becoming the real deal.

Such has been Jackson’s start to the season he’s currently keeping the more established Christopher Nkunku out of the side.

The Senegalese put in an impressive performance against the Bees and scored his ninth goal of season with a well taken goal, which Ben Foster described as a thing of beauty.

Despite Jackson’s obvious improvement Warnock believes there’s still one thing he’s doing too much during games.

“I think Nicolas Jackson was raw last season. I think there was an element where we knew he was a good player, but could he put it all together? I think he’s almost enjoyed that pressure of people writing him off and he’s proven to people now that he’s a good player,” he told Sky Sports News.

“He still probably gets caught offside a little bit too much, but as a defender, that’s quite a concern at times when you’ve got someone who’s not afraid to play on the shoulder.”

Given Jackson’s pace and his movement it’s not a surprise that he does get caught offside often during games, but if he can work on timing his runs slightly better it would potentially make a big difference.

After all the criticism he received last season it’s great to see Jackson getting the credit he deserves and he’s clearly developing into a very good striker.
