Arne Slot will seemingly be forced into at least one starting XI change when Liverpool welcome Manchester United to Anfield this Sunday.

It’s an affair that the Old Trafford faithful cannot even consider yet, as they instead hope to get through tonight’s clash against Newcastle United without the Reds sustaining a sixth defeat in December alone.

As for Sunday’s hosts, they’re likely relishing the opportunity to embarrass their fierce arch-rivals yet again on home soil, having enjoyed near-perfect form since Slot took the reins at the beginning of the summer.

They boast a five-point lead atop the table with a game in hand over second-placed Nottingham Forest and have scored the most goals (45) of any team in the division.

Liverpool will enter the fixture on the back of a 5-0 away win over West Ham, which saw all of Slot’s starting front-three – Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz – etch their names onto the scoresheet prior to the interval.

The Dutch boss is, however, set to be navigating the absence of one key starter this weekend in the form of Joe Gomez, who pulled up with an apparent hamstring injury at the London Stadium and was withdrawn in the 37th minute.

He was replaced by youngster Jarrell Quansah, 21, as trusty centre-half Ibrahima Konate is currently sidelined with a knee complaint.

“You saw today an injury of Joe Gomez. If a player says he wants to stop, he has to be changed,” Slot told reporters post-match, as cited by Liverpool’s official website.

“In a sprint, then we all know it’s a hamstring, and we all know it’s going take a while before he is back. I don’t know how long, but he will be out for quite a bit. These situations can happen in a season.”
