FLW's Southampton fan pundit has suggested one signing the club should make this summer

The importance of Southampton’s upcoming transfer window can’t be understated, as they embark on a mission to reclaim their Premier League status.
Saints’ supporters will only have to endure two more games in the top-flight, after what has been a horrid season for the South Coast side.
The first task on Southampton’s agenda will be to appoint a new manager, who can outline some profiles they would like to build their squad around. The likes of David Wagner, Eric Ramsay and Will Still all in the running for the job, according to talkSPORT.
talkSPORT have also suggested that Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has also been touted for the role, amid reports that his tumultuous spell at Hillsborough is coming to a close.
Ahead of the transfer window, Football League World’s Southampton fan pundit, Martin Sanders, highlighted one realistic signing he’d be keen for the Saints to bring in this summer.
“We need a proven centre-forward, we need a focal point,” stated Martin. “A proper striker, not short strikers that try and run in behind, like Cameron Archer and Adam Armstrong.
“I was chatting to a good friend of mine today about who a realistic target would be and we were talking about Josh Sargent at Norwich City.
“Would he be my standout signing? Probably not, but he's the sort of ilk that we need, that sort of player.
“He would score goals for us. We need someone who's going to score goals, that's big and strong up front, that can really make a difference.”
Josh Sargent will probably feel shortchanged regarding the attention he’s received during the 2024/25 Championship campaign.
20 goal contributions in 32 league appearances is an outstanding return, and one that deserves more praise than the striker is currently receiving.
It should be mentioned that for a fair portion of the season, Norwich struggled immensely, which makes the 25-year-old’s output even more impressive.
If Sargent moved to Southampton, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine the USMNT forward increasing his tally, with the Saints surely one of the favourites to fight for promotion next term.
The obvious downside to signing Sargent is his worrying injury issues, which have prevented him from becoming one of the Championship’s most influential players.
Last season saw groin surgery disrupt his flying form in early November, ruling the attacker out for over two months.
However if kept fit, Sargent could be a deadly operator for the Saints.
He is apparently keen on leaving Carrow Road too, after refusing to rule out a move away from Norwich in an interview earlier this year.
"I think there will be a few options this summer if something were to happen," Sargent told the Guardian.
"It's a decision that me and my wife are gonna have to make together, and whatever makes the most sense for our family, as well as my career."
Therefore, if Southampton put forward a reasonable proposal that made sense for both Sargent and Norwich, it would be quite realistic to see the forward playing a leading role at St.Mary’s next term, firing in goals as the Saints battle for promotion back to the top-flight.
