As reported by Kicker, Hertha Berlin could face a six-figure fine should Florian Niederlechner start against his former club FC Augsburg this weekend.
It’s a game that could have massive repercussions on both clubs’ seasons and futures. Currently, Hertha and Augsburg sit 17th and 13th respectively. A win for Hertha this weekend could drag Augsburg right back into a relegation battle while giving the Berliners a must-needed lifeline.
One of the players who could make a difference for Hertha is forward Niederlechner. Having signed from Augsburg earlier than expected this winter, many thought it was a strange deal considering both teams are near the bottom.
However, in the agreement between both clubs, Augsburg placed an appearance clause within the deal. This would mean Hertha will face a penalty should Niederlechner be in the starting 11 against his former team.
It’s a catch-22 for Hertha. Niederlechner has impressed since his move and can be a valued player from the start. However, Hertha are already suffering financial difficulties, is it worth the six-figure fine?
