“Of course that is your dream when you exchange Ajax for City at the age of sixteen. Although I knew in advance that it would be difficult," he told Volkskrant.

“Dutch clubs allow more talent to transfer to the first, that's right. But I also know plenty of guys who stayed with Ajax and now play in the Eerste Divisie or just play football with friends in the hall."

Dilrosun praised the facilities and youth coaches at City.

“They are great. Of course I sometimes thought if things were not going well: if only I had stayed with Ajax. But in Amsterdam more temptation was lurking, chilling with friends, girls. In Manchester I was purely dependent on football.

“I now count as a 'self-trained player' through my years at City, the English clubs must have some in the selection. That is a real advantage. It is a pity that today's talents are no longer able to make the switch early."
