Hibernian have opened talks with Swindon Town over the signing of striker Harry McKirdy, a report from The Daily Record has claimed.

McKirdy enjoyed an excellent campaign for Swindon last season, scoring 24 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions to help the Robins to the League Two play-offs.

That is something that has led to plenty of speculation around the future of the 25-year-old, with Hibs having been credited with an interest in the attacker, even before the transfer window had opened.

Now it seems as though the Scottish Premiership side have made their move, in an attempt to secure the services of the attacker.

According to this latest update, Hibernian and Swindon are now in talks over a potential move for McKirdy, with the Easter Road club in desperate need of attacking reinforcements before the window closes.

It has been suggested that with the attacker in the final year of his contract at The City Ground, he could be available to Hibernian for a cut-price fee.

The Verdict

This does look as though it could be a useful piece of business for Hibernian to get done.

The Scottish Premiership side do look to be in need of some attacking reinforcements, and McKirdy’s record last season does suggest he could provide plenty of firepower for them.

Given his contract situation, this could also suit Hibernian from a financial perspective as well, while the opportunity to play top-flight football in Scotland could be appealing to the player himself.

As a result, it will be interesting to see if those involved are able to thrash out a deal, especially given Swindon will surely be desperate to retain the services of such a key asset.
