Luka Jovic’s long-term future at Milan seemed dead in the water until a dramatic turnaround in recent matches reignited his prospects. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serbian striker will soon ask the hierarchy to extend his deal for another two years.
Jovic’s current contract at Stadio San Siro runs out in June. He joined the club from Fiorentina in the summer of 2023 on a short-term deal. However, his agreement with Milan allows the club to trigger a specific ‘1+1+1’ clause, meaning they could exercise another extension.
Indeed, Milan renewed Jovic’s deal last summer. After the player’s torrid time under Paulo Fonseca, many expected him to leave the Rossoneri in the summer. Yet, Sergio Conceicao could be on course to establish the former Real Madrid flop as a permanent first-team fixture.
Jovic has been in scintillating form lately. In addition to scoring a match-winning brace in a 3-0 Coppa Italia win against Inter, he scored in high-profile league clashes against Fiorentina and Napoli. Therefore, Milan are eager to offer him a new one-year contract, while the player would ideally put pen to paper on a two-year extension.
Much will depend on Conceicao’s future at Milan. Plus, the Italians splashed out a small fortune to sign Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord in January, hoping to make him their attacking leader for years to come. Then, there’s Tammy Abraham, whose future is still up in the air while waiting for Milan to open discussions with his parent club, Roma.
