Brentford Under-21s continued their fine run of form, beating London rivals Millwall 3-1 on Monday afternoon.

Ashley Hay bagged a brace, meaning taking his tally for the last two games to five, and Ryan Trevitt was the other Bees goalscorer on the day.

MacFarlane’s side were looking to put together another positive performance following the recent good run of form.

Hay gave Brentford the lead early on. Following a cross into the box, the ball fell kindly into his path and he finished well from close range.

Trevitt went close as he was quickest to react to a loose ball in the penalty area and he drew a fine stop George Evans in the Millwall net.

Tom Bradshaw was fouled in the penalty area by Julian Eyestone and the referee pointed to the spot. Eyestone made up for his mistake, making an impressive save to deny the striker.

Soon after this, the lead was doubled as Hay scored his second of the game, diverting a sublime header past Evans following an Isaac Holland cross.

Ryan Trevitt capped off an amazing first period with a driven shot from outside the box which nestled into the top corner of the net.

The second period was much quieter as both teams probed at different points without really threatening too much.

The away side did score a consolation goal through Kyle Smith in the last minute of the game due to Brentford failing to clear the ball.

The result means Brentford have now won four league games on the bounce.

MacFarlane’s side turn their attention to another competition next as Brentford B take on Bournemouth U21s on Saturday 9 November at Wheatsheaf Park in an important Premier League Cup tie.

MacFarlane pleased with strong run of performances

Head coach Neil MacFarlane was rapt with his side's display as they made it four league wins in a row on Monday afternoon.

Speaking post-game, MacFarlane said the young Bees would now eye taking strong league form into the Premier League Cup on Saturday.
