Hoffenheim TSG have contacted Rennes over the feasibility of deadline day loan move for Leo Østigård (25), according to Foot Mercato. The 25-year-old centre-back has joined Les Rouge et Noir in a €7m move from Napoli and could already be on his way out after only six months in Brittany, following in the footsteps of Rennes summer signing the likes of Jota, Albert Gronbaek, Glen Kamara and Henrik Meister. Østigård has struggled to find his level at Rennes and was often found wanting.
Østigård could pay the price of Habib Beye’s appointment as Rennes’ head coach. The former Newcastle United manager benched the Norwegian international centre-back for his debut on Sunday against Strasbourg. When winter signing Lilian Brassier could not continue against the Alsatians, Beye turned to Mikayil Faye. With Brassier and Anthony Rouault signed this Monday, Østigård may fall down the pecking order even harder and Hoffenheim have pounced, offering him a way out in the form of a loan bid with an option to buy.
