Our Red Bulls enjoyed more of the play and had the vast majority of the chances, but still ended up on the losing end today. Moussa Yeo's opener had seemed destined to reward our efforts with three points, only for an own goal and a strike on the break to condemn us to our first home defeat of the season in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga.
The match was not even two minutes old by the time the 9,145 spectators were first on the edge of their seats. Kamil Piatkowski hit a long ball for Karim Konate to take down well and set up an attempted lob of Siebenhandl - only for the LASK goalkeeper to save (2'). We kept on coming forward, and Karim Konate had another good chance, but headed over (14').
The Linz side's first good moment came in the 17th minute, when Entrup sent a header from a promising position over the bar.
From that point on, it was our boys alone who headed forward, only for our chances to fail to be converted. Oscar Gloukh went close from the left corner of the target (30'), while Moussa Yeo (44') and Dorgeles Nene (45') also threatened without being able to avert it remaining goalless at the break.
After the restart, it was out boys who really bounded forward and tried to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Konate managed to break free of his markers several times and had further opportunities to give us the lead - only to miss the target with a header from an Aleksa Terzic cross, while he teed Nene up who went wide too (52' and 53').
After an hour on the clock, we finally took the lead. After a short corner, the ball found its way to Moussa Yeo in the area, who turned and converted clinically for a well-deserved opening goal (62')!
We weren't able to build on the platform the lead gave us, however. Karim Konate fired over on the break that so easily could have led to a second (70') before the Ivorian had even more misfortune. A set piece floated into our box was turned across the goal, and Konate mishit his attempted clearance in front of the line to turn the ball into our net for 1-1 (73').
Our team stepped up a gear once again and did everything to try to fashion further openings - only for another goal to fall against us on the break. Maximilian Entrup put the ball into the net for LASK to make it 2-1 (88') and condemn us to a disappointing defeat.
The scoreboard doesn't lie, as hard as it was today. Even if we didn't deserve to lose, matches are decided by individual moments and two of them were not good enough today for us. It is incredible how often we got into their area, with crosses, promising headers and shots - we didn't play well in attack. With the chances we had, we should have won.
