How can Bayern Munich tackle injury crisis in central defense?

The March international break period has done Bayern Munich dirty again. Dayot Upamecano suffered cartilage damage that will sideline him for around three months. Alphonso Davies tore his ACL, marking the end of his season. The bad somehow got even worse as Hiroki Ito fractured his right metatarsal against St. Pauli and will be sidelined for a lengthy period.

Bayern will have to enter the most demanding phase of the season extremely thin and vulnerable at the back. The German record champion now only has two healthy center-back options. Much as Vincent Kompany might want to suit himself up to solve this issue, he will have to experiment with some alternatives. Here are 3 possible center-back combinations to help Bayern cross the finish line.

Kim Min-jae and Eric Dier

The only two players natural at the center-back position left for Bayern. Kim Min-Jae is enjoying a decent campaign partnering with Dayot Upamecano. The South Korean might not be the powerhouse he used to be in Napoli, but he is still as reliable as ever. Kim Min-jae would have to lead the backline for the rest of the season for Bayern Munich.

Complementing him is the seasoned Englishman Eric Dier. Although he is, admittedly, not a good fit in Kompany's system due to his slow recovery speed, he has still been a solid backup. The former Tottenham star had stepped up for Bayern when they needed stability last season. Bayern fans surely hope he can replicate those performances.

Kim and Dier are expected to be the optimal duo in the upcoming UEFA Champions League fixtures against Inter and other important clashes in the Bundesliga.
