Diego Rico was a very important part of Bournemouth’s squad during the last three seasons after he arrived at the club from Leganes in the summer of 2018.

The left-back did initially struggle to break into Bournemouth’s starting line-up during his first full season with the Cherries. That meant he managed to make just five starts and 12 Premier League appearances in the 2018/19 campaign.

However, Rico managed to force his way into Eddie Howe’s plans on a more consistent basis during the 2019/20 Premier League season.

The defender made 27 starts for the Cherries and provided four assists in that time whilst also helping Bournemouth record five clean sheets.

Despite Rico’s form for Bournemouth during the 2019/20 Premier League season he was unable to help keep the Cherries in the top-flight and Howe’s side ended up being relegated to the championship.

Howe left that summer, but Rico remained a key part of Bournemouth’s plans in the Championship.

The left-back managed to fire home his first league goal for the club during a 4-0 win against Barnsley in December 2020. He ended the campaign with one goal and three assists in his 32 appearances.

Rico though decided to leave Bournemouth in the summer though following the Cherries failing to secure promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

That came with Real Sociedad offering him the chance to return to LA Liga and play in the top-flight of a major European league once again.

The defender managed to get his first taste of action with his new club during their pre-season period with him featuring against Eibar back at the start of August.

Rico took to his personal Instagram account to express his delight about making his first appearance for his new club after that game.

However, since then, Rico has not been able to make a single appearance in La Liga for Real Sociedad after he has suffered a muscle injury at the start of the campaign.

He has therefore had a watching brief for Real Sociedad so far this season as they have enjoyed a very strong start to the campaign picking up 21 points from their first ten games. That see them top the table as things stand.

The left-back has recently revealed on his personal Instagram account that he is now back in training for Real Sociedad.

That suggests that he is close to making his first appearance for them in La Liga in the not too distant future.
