During the summer just gone, out of favour Nottingham Forest midfielder Harry Arter completed a move back to his boyhood club, Charlton Athletic.

The 31-year-old is now well into the twilight years of what has been a long and seasoned career in the Football League and will no doubt be seeking to get another promotion on his CV with the Addicks.

Since swapping the City Ground for the Valley, the former Bournemouth man has endured a frustrating start to life in his second spell with the Addicks, with injury restricting him to just five appearances across all competitions so far.

The midfielder did however feature for the best part of 71 minutes in his side’s recent FA Cup win over Havant & Waterlooville as they won 4-0 on home turf.

This shows that interim manager Johnnie Jackson is keen to reintegrate him back into the squad after Arter was sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Arter’s loan spell with Charlton is something which should give the player a new lease of life after he was frozen out by the now departed Forest manager Chris Hughton and it could well offer him a route towards either making a permanent move to the Valley or getting a reprieve with his parent club under Steve Cooper.

The key now for the 31-year-old is to get back to playing regularly every week, especially as he was only afforded 14 games last term.

As one of the more experienced members of the Charlton squad, it appears likely that he will have a vital role to play for the Addicks under the guidance of whoever is handed the manager role in the hear future.

Make no mistake about it, Arter still has plenty left in the tank and on his day he can be one of the best players in his position that is operating in Sky Bet League One at present.

With his Forest future clouded in doubt, Arter’s full focus will be on helping the Addicks to climb the table moving forwards.
