The 29-year-old had been a firm part of their side for two seasons and was always a reliable source of goals when called upon.

Unfortunately, a return to his homeland came calling in the summer with Trabzonspor offering €2 million for his services. This was duly accepted, and the attacking midfielder returned to Turkey for a second stint in their top division.

Since his departure, the Tigers have struggled, and after the highs of last season's play-off chase, they now find themselves fighting to secure their Championship status for the 2025-26 campaign.

Luckily, Hull's owner, Acun Ilicali, has been active in the January transfer window and will be hoping that the club's new signings can help steer City away from the threat of relegation in the crucial final stretch of the season.

Nevertheless, they would have been better off retaining the experience of Tufan for this season. So, at Football League World we have opted to take a look at just how the Turkish international is faring at Trabzonspor.

Ozun Tufan at Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor are one of the bigger teams in the Süper Lig but have struggled to compete this season, currently sitting in ninth place. Meanwhile, Galatasaray are the runaway leaders and remain unbeaten as they push to secure their 25th league title.

Last year, the Black Sea Storm finished third and this assured them a spot in the Europa League qualification rounds. Tufan was available for this and made his debut in a 2-0 win over Slovakian side, MFK Ružomberok.

Unfortunately, the midfielder then endured a double setback. In the following round, Trabzonspor suffered a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Rapid Wien, ending their Europa League hopes. This relegated them to the final qualifying round of the Conference League, where they faced further heartbreak, losing to St. Gallen on penalties. To make matters worse for the 29-year-old, he was substituted at halftime during the second leg, with his team trailing 1-0.

Focusing on domestic action, Tufan hasn't had the minutes he likely would have desired with Trabzonspor's number 11 just starting 11 games out of their 21 games all season.

When he has featured, he has performed well, registering three goals and two assists in 987 minutes of play. Beyond that, his underlying stats are impressive - he creates 1.82 chances per 90 minutes, boasts an 80% accuracy with long balls, and wins possession in the final third 0.73 times per 90, according to FotMob.

This has seen calls for him to get more starts, but at present, it appears more likely that he will exit the club. According to Fotomac, via Trabzon 360 Haber, the 29-year-old is attracting interest from

FC Dynamo Moscow with the Russian window remaining open until February 20th. This would be a surprising twist and could see the attacking-minded midfielder leave after just six months since returning to his homeland.

Hull still miss Tufan

Ozan Tufan may have flown somewhat under the radar at Hull City, but during his time at the club, he produced some outstanding performances.

Last season, he scored 10 goals in 37 appearances, and his hat-trick to turn around a 1-0 deficit against Sheffield Wednesday will certainly be remembered.

At present, the club is lacking that vital goal-scoring presence from midfield, with no player from the centre of the park managing more than two goals. This is a genuine concern, and Ruben Selles would no doubt be thrilled to have a player of Tufan's calibre at his disposal.

The Turkish international has to be regarded as one of Ilicali's best acquisitions to date, and you can be sure Tigers supporters will wish him all the best for the remainder of his career.
