Sargent and Sainz are two of Norwich's biggest stars, but do their wage packets reflect that?
In Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz, Norwich City have two of the best forwards in the Championship, and both will no doubt be key to the Canaries' chances of winning promotion to the Premier League this season.
The US international Sargent has proven himself to be a quality player at second tier level over the last couple of seasons, ending the previous two campaigns as the club's top goalscorer with 16 and 13 respectively.
After making a strong start to the 2024/25 season with four goals and five assists from 12 league appearances, the 24-year-old has been struck down with a serious groin injury which will require surgery, sidelining him until the new year.
This will leave Johannes Hoff Thorup thin on the ground in the goalscoring department, but luckily for him and the club, this season has birthed a new Spanish superstar at Carrow Road in the form of Sainz.
He's arguably been the best player in the division through the opening stages of the campaign, and is proving to be quite the marksman too.
So, how do the salaries of these two Canaries stars compare with one another? Using Capology - whose figures must be stressed are estimates -, FLW investigates...
Despite his recent injury blow, Sargent should return fresh and ready to pick up where he left off ahead of a crucial second half of the season for Norwich.
The American has been crucial to the Canaries after a disappointing debut season at Carrow Road back in 2021/22, when some fans were questioning whether he was a smart investment by the club.
He's proven himself to be exactly that in recent times, however, and prior to his injury setback, he was showing signs of having become a real asset in terms of creating goals for his teammates as well as scoring them.
So, how much is he understood to be earning as a Norwich player? According to Capology, Sargent's weekly salary is £25,000, which works out as an annual salary of £1.3m.
His performances have made him one of the storylines of the Championship season so far, and he's showing no signs of slowing down either.
Sainz is playing as well as anybody in the division at this moment in time, and with Sargent sidelined until the turn of the year, there won't be many who are more valuable to their team than the Spaniard is to Norwich.
If the Canaries are to retake their seat among English football's elite this season, then Sainz will undoubtedly have played a leading role in securing that achievement.
But, does his salary reflect how crucial he is to Thorup's side? According to Capology, Sainz' weekly salary is £15,000, which means his annual salary stands at £780,000.
Having signed a three-year deal with Norwich last summer, Sainz still has two years remaining on his Canaries contract.
However, time moves quickly in football, and so do those big clubs who eye up potential future stars and pluck them from leagues such as the Championship.
As such, Norwich may need to act quickly to tie him down to an even longer contract extension at some point in the near future, if they wish to feel more secure in the knowledge that he won't be going anywhere.
If and when that day comes for Sainz to ink a new deal with the club, his performances so far this season will surely warrant a significant hike in his wages, and make him one of, if not the highest earner in the squad.
