Rhian Brewster is out of contract at Bramall Lane this summer - but how much has his current deal cost Sheffield United?

Rhian Brewster is associated by a lot of football fans with the huge reported transfer fee Sheffield United paid Liverpool to secure the striker’s services back in 2020.

The forward’s lack of consistent goals in return has seen the move questioned, with doubts from fans whether the club should extend Brewster’s expiring contract.

Aside from costing the Blades a reported £23.5million, Brewster will have also racked up quite the wage bill along the duration of his five-year contract.

Rhian Brewster's Sheffield United wages

According to Capology, a website that calculates and estimates footballers' wages, Rhian Brewster’s initial contract at Sheffield United was worth £27,500 a week.

That meant the striker earned a net £1.4million in his debut season, tasting relegation to the Championship after he failed to score in 27 Premier League appearances.

His maiden second-tier season as a Blade was cut short, with a hamstring injury halting his 2021/22 season after just 14 appearances.

Brewster did manage to break his league duck, but his return of three goals was less than impressive.

Frustratingly, it was a similar story in the following season. After 16 Championship appearances, with an even lower return of just one goal, Brewster picked up another hamstring injury that ruled him out for the rest of Sheffield United’s league campaign.

Despite not signing a new deal since his arrival at Bramall Lane, Brewster was estimated by Capology to have received a wage increase following Sheffield United’s return to the Premier League for the 2023/24 season.

The website claims that Brewster went from £27,500 a week to £35,000, an increase of just over 27%.

In the prior season, Brewster had reached 50 league appearances for the Blades, a common marker tied to wage increases in contracts, whilst automatic wage increases upon promotion to the Premier League are also frequently seen.

Brewster made just 13 top-flight appearances after suffering three occurrences of a hamstring injury, extending his Premier League goalscoring drought to 40 games.

Despite Sheffield United’s relegation to the Championship, Brewster did not receive a wage reduction, according to Capology.

In total, the website reckons Brewster’s current contract would have earned him £7.6million across its duration.

Likely pay rise for Rhian Brewster if forward stays at Sheffield United

Prior to the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season, it was claimed that Brewster was not amongst Sheffield United’s top earners.

Despite his lack of goals, Brewster’s regular gametime in his newfound position will likely cause the attacker to ask for a wage increase.

The 25-year-old is out of contract this summer, and despite Brewster’s perceived status as a flop, Sheffield United will be keen to protect their investment.

Manager Chris Wilder is keen to keep the attacker, stating that sorting Brewster’s contract had been on the agenda when Sheffield United’s owners visited in recent weeks.

If that's a Premier League contract for a player in his mid-20s, there's every chance he's getting a hike.
