It is the second fixture of England’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Both sides won their opening games but expectations will be vastly different tonight. Anything but victory for England tonight would be a big surprise for Tuchel in his first international break.

Here’s what you need to know ahead of the clash…

Kick-off time

7.45pm GMT

How to watch in the UK

ITV1 or streaming on ITVX

Injuries and doubts

England: Anthony Gordon (out), Cole Palmer (doubt), Tino Livramento (not selected), Aaron Ramsdale (not selected)

Anthony Gordon picked up an injury in England’s victory over Albania and has withdrawn from the squad ahead of tonight. Cole Palmer missed Chelsea’s last match and Tuchel’s first game and it is unclear when he will return. Tuchel selected a 26-man squad but he is only able to name 23 players in the match day squad so Tino Livramento and Aaron Ramsdale will also miss out tonight.

Latvia: Robert Uldikris (out), Kristers Tobers (out)

Latvia are missing two of their most-capped players. Robert Uldikris has 55 caps but was not called up due to injury. Aberdeen centre-back Kristers Tobers is Latvia’s usual captain but he also misses out with an injury.

Predicted line-ups

It is likely that Tuchel will make some changes as he experiments with his new squad. However, he will still be desperate to secure another victory.

England (4-2-3-1): Pickford; James, Guehi, Colwill, Lewis-Skelly; Rice, Henderson; Bowen, Bellingham, Rogers; Kane

Latvia (5-4-1): Zviedris; Savalnieks, Balodis, Cernomordijs, Jurkovskis, Ciganiks; Zelenkovs, Melniks, Saveljevs, Ikaunieks; Gutkovskis

Recent form

England have lost just once since they were defeated in the Euros final by Spain. The Three Lions will look to continue that form as they hope to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Tuchel’s tenure got off to a winning start on Friday and he will be expecting another victory tonight.

Latvia have only ever been to one major international tournament – Euro 2004. However, their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign got off to a winning start. They won 1-0 away from home against Andorra and sit second behind England in Group K. They will still be massive underdogs though and any result at Wembley would be historic for Latvia.

What’s been said?

Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden both disappointed in Tuchel’s first game against Albania. Ahead of tonight the German confirmed: “I’ve spoken to both of them, also in front of the group, they know that I appreciate the effort.

“Marcus had a lot of runs when we had the ball, where we did not see him, where we did not use him. He was a little bit unlucky maybe with the timing. From time to time we oversaw him. Phil is just maybe not finding the momentum at the moment that he can have.

“But both of them are very positive, have every right to be positive and know exactly what we want from them. Ideally we try to bring them in more one-on-one situations and ideally they have the confidence to take the one-on-ones.”

On Friday night, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly scored on his England debut. His teammate Declan Rice revealed: “He just took it in his stride and he played how he’d done for Arsenal all season. We have so many good left-backs in the country.

“You need to be on it every time you come here and you need to be able to push to start, and Myles is only 18. We can’t put that emphasis on him straight away that he’s going to be in England and start for the next 10 years.”
