The 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place in Paris this evening, as football’s most prestigious individual award is decided.

A first-time winner of the Ballon d’Or is guaranteed, with neither Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi on the final shortlist for the first time in 21 years, and Karim Benzema (2022) and Luka Modric (2018) also not in contention.

Vinicius Junior is the frontrunner to take the accolade and continue Real Madrid’s rich history of Ballon d’Or winners, though the Brazilian faces competition from club teammate Jude Bellingham and Manchester City midfielder Rodri.

It is the 68th edition of the award, first won by England’s Stanley Matthews, and this will be the first time that UEFA have co-hosted the event with France Football.

When is the Ballon d’Or 2024 ceremony?

The 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony takes place on Monday, October 28th, 2024 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. The ceremony is due to begin at 7pm GMT.

How to watch the Ballon d’Or live on TV in the UK

The Ballon d’Or will not be televised live in the UK but can be watched on YouTube. L’Equipe’s YouTube channel are streaming the ceremony for free.

Who are the Ballon d’Or 2024 nominees?

There are 10 Premier League players on the 30-player shortlist of nominees, with Manchester City midfielder Rodri among the frontunners to take the prize.

City teammate Phil Foden, who won the PFA Player of the Year in 2023/24 and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who claimed the Young Player equivalent, are also shortlisted.

Barcelona and Spain winger Lamine Yamal is the youngest-ever player to ever be nominated for the Ballon d’Or. He was selected aged 17 years and 22 days, surpassing Kylian Mbappé’s record (18 years and 293 days).
