Huddersfield Town centre back Tom Lees has put pen to paper on a new contract with the club, the Terriers have confirmed.

Lees joined Huddersfield in the summer of 2021, arriving on a free transfer following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday after the expiration of his contract at Hillsborough.

Since then, the 31-year-old has become a regular feature for the Terriers, making 52 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring five goals.

The defender’s contract at the John Smith’s Stadium had been due to expire at the end of this season, casting some doubt over his future, although that is no longer the case.

It has now been announced that Lees has signed a new long-term contract with Huddersfield, that is set to keep him with the club until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Who does Aaron Mooy play for now?

That means the centre back now looks set to spend at least the next three years of his career, as a Huddersfield Town player.

Lees is not the first member of the Huddersfield squad to extend his contract with the club this summer, with Jonathan Hogg and Ollie Turton having also recently done the same.

The Verdict

This does look as though it will be a rather good piece of business for Huddersfield to have completed.

Lees has been a consistently reliable option for the Terriers in defence, ever since he arrived at the club last summer.

As a result, this new deal ensures they retain an important asset in terms of his ability, and the experience and leadership that he can provide as well.

That is something that will likely be vital for Huddersfield with the young players they have coming through the ranks, meaning this should be a popular move with everyone around the John Smith’s Stadium.
