Huddersfield Town defender Christopher Schindler has emerged as a potential loan target for German side FC Nurnberg according to Kicker.

FC Nurnberg have retained their status as a club in the 2.Bundesliga for another season, with three matches still remaining in this year’s campaign.

They’re reportedly looking at signing players with a low budget, which has seen them target a move for the Huddersfield Town defender.

Schindler has made 184 appearances in total for the Terriers, after first signing for the club back in 2016 from 1860 Munich. The German-born defender enjoyed a successful first season with the Yorkshire-based side as well, as they won promotion into the Premier League.

The defender fired home the winning penalty at Wembley in the Championship Play-Off Final against Reading in 2017, which saw him then spend two full seasons with Huddersfield Town in the Premier League.

Schindler is out-of-contract at the end of the 2020/21 season, and it remains to be seen as to whether the Championship side will activate their option to extend his deal by a further year.

He has made 13 appearances in all competitions this season for Carlos Corberan’s side, but hasn’t been involved since December due to him picking up a knee injury.

Huddersfield are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on Coventry City, in what is likely to be a closely-fought battle between the two teams at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Does the John Smith's Stadium have a higher or lower capacity than these 18 grounds?

The Verdict:

It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for Schindler.

I’m sure plenty of the Huddersfield Town supporters would be keen to see him extend his stay with the club, but his recent injury problems will be a concern for his future with the Championship side.

I’d be surprised if the Terriers were to send him out on loan, as I can see it being a case of either them releasing him when his contract reaches a conclusion in the summer, or him starting regularly for Huddersfield if he is to be offered a new contract.
