Hull City are interested in signing Kilmarnock striker Bobby Wales.
Hull City are keen on Kilmarnock striker Bobby Wales, who has entered the final months of his contract with the Scottish Premiership side.
Ruben Selles will be hoping for a busy window with the Tigers after his appointment in December, with the side still in the relegation zone despite some positive displays under his guidance.
Bringing in attacking reinforcements is sure to be a priority, and Football Insider has revealed that Wales is a target for Hull.
The report claims that Hull believe they could sign Wales for a ‘cut-price’ deal this month due to his contract expiring in the summer, with the Championship outfit having registered their interest in the player.
Given his age, Hull would have to pay compensation if Wales did move on a free, but there is a hope that the two clubs can reach an agreement this month.
The Scotland youth international enjoyed a very productive loan spell with Alloa last season, which prompted Kilmarnock to bring him into the first-team this season.
So far, he has managed just one goal from 14 appearances in the top-flight, although it should be noted that many of those outings have come from the bench.
Nevertheless, those who feel Wales may just walk straight into the XI to score the goals that Hull need to stay up this season are probably mistaken, as whilst he could be involved at points, he will surely be viewed as a long-term signing.
The teenager clearly has talent, and there will be a feeling at Hull that he could develop into a top player in the years to come if he builds on that early promise.
Like all youngsters, there are areas of Wales’ game that he needs to improve, but that will come with experience, whilst he will still be growing physically as he adapts to senior football at a high level.
Some will argue that Hull need signings for the here and now, which they obviously do, but it’s still encouraging that they are looking to the future, and Wales could turn out to be a shrewd addition in the years to come if they can get this finalised.
As outlined above, Selles will be expecting a hectic January window, and he will have told the recruitment team the areas that they need to strengthen over the next few weeks ahead of the deadline.
