As per reports from Hull Live, La Liga sides Valencia and Getafe are both keen on the idea of striking a deal for the Colombian.

After retaining their Championship status by the skin of their teeth following a 1-1 draw away at Portsmouth on the final day, the Tigers will know they desperately need to improve next term if they are to avoid the drop, and that will include keeping several of their key players.

However, with the impressive Alzate now attracting interest, they look set to face a potential setback before their squad-building process has even properly begun.

Valencia and Getafe both want Alzate

Alzate was a rare bright spark in what was another frustrating season for the East Yorkshire outfit.

Hull signed the 26-year-old as a free agent last summer, following his release by Brighton, and he has gone on to become one of their key men throughout the season.

He had to endure an injury-affected campaign, but made 28 league appearances for the Tigers. All bar three of those came under the tutelage of Ruben Selles, with the former Reading boss regularly trusting Alzate to be his first-choice option in the centre of midfield.

Hull are also facing interest from elsewhere in England as well as the Spanish duo.

However, while clubs begin to circle around the Colombian, Selles and the club’s hierarchy can take solace from the fact that Alzate’s two-year contract ensures they still hold power over where his future may lie.

It is understood at present that with just over a year left on that deal, the Tigers will hold out for a seven-figure fee for the former Standard Liege loanee.

While they would surely rather not lose Alzate, the club are aware that funds need to be raised in order to revamp the squad over the summer window, and Alzate could end up being sacrificed as a way of achieving that.

Hull need to trust Selles

Despite reports that owner Acun Ilicali and the club’s hierarchy have doubts over Selles’ ability to steer the Tigers away from trouble next term, he remains in charge of the club at present.

Given the turnaround in fortunes since he made the switch from Reading back in December, the Tigers surely need to stick by their Spanish boss and attempt to provide him with the resources he will need to turn them around over the next few seasons.

The 41-year-old moved to the MKM Stadium after Hull had won just three of their first 18 league games, a run of form which left them sitting 22nd in the Championship table.

Since Selles’ appointment however, the team have drastically improved. Hull have been in top-half form over the course of his tenure so far, and that has ultimately hauled them to safety in the final stages of the campaign.

Had Selles been in charge since the beginning of the season, then it’s a fair suggestion to say that Hull likely wouldn’t have even been in the relegation battle.

Although poor form at the very end of the campaign made Hull’s situation a little more treacherous than it needed to be in the last few games, there is surely enough evidence to suggest that Selles should be trusted with the reins for next season.

The Spaniard oversaw a significant turnaround, despite having little room for manoeuvre in terms of altering his squad. Now with the potential of a whole summer ahead of him in the transfer market, he has surely earned himself another shot next term.
