The Blades were relegated from the Premier League last season after just one year in the top flight, but they will be aiming to bounce back at the first attempt after a strong summer of transfer business.

On the pitch, it has been a strong start to the season for United with two wins and two draws from their first four games, and they currently sit eighth in the table, but they would be even higher had they not received a two-point deduction.

Wilder's men are back in action after the international break when they make the trip to face Hull at the MKM Stadium on Friday night, and they will be looking to record their second consecutive victory after a 1-0 home win over Watford last time out.

Moore admitted that automatic promotion is the aim for the Blades this season, but he stressed that it may take time for his side to perform at their best given the influx of new signings over the summer.

When asked if the top two is the target for United this season, Moore told Sky Sports: "Definitely.

"In my eyes, I can't see why not.

"We're building a really good squad here, we've got good management, we've got good staff. "But ultimately, as cliche as it sounds, we need to take it game by game. "We're a new side with lots of new faces and a new playing style, and it's going to take time to gel.

"We need to just keep being at it, get as many points as we possibly can and see where we end up near the end of the season."

Moore has achieved automatic promotion from the Championship on two occasions in his career, first with Bournemouth in the 2021-22 season before repeating the feat with Ipswich Town during his loan spell at Portman Road last term.

Takeover delay could be an obstacle to Sheffield United promotion

It has been an excellent start to the campaign for the Blades, and they have recovered impressively from last season's humiliating relegation.

There is no doubt that United's starting XI is one of the best in the division, but questions remain about the depth of their squad, and injuries and suspensions could be a problem for Wilder over the course of the season.

It is no surprise that the Blades are light in certain areas given the fact they endured a slow start to the transfer window amid the ongoing takeover uncertainty at the club, but their squad will need strengthening in January if they are to maintain a promotion push.

Wilder will be hoping that he will have the necessary funds available to bolster his squad, but it was reported earlier this week that the proposed takeover has hit a stumbling block, and if the deal was to collapse, it could have implications for United's season.
