In a pre-match press conference ahead of Olympique Lyonnais v Saint Étienne, Alexandre Lacazette (33) spoke of his excitement of captaining his boyhood club in the Derby Rhône-Alpes for the first time.
Lyon are set to host the derby against arch-rivals ASSE for the first time on Sunday night since the club were promoted back to Ligue 1. It will also be Lacazette’s first derby captaining OL since he returned to Les Gones from Arsenal on a free transfer in 2022. Despite it being his first as captain, the former Arsenal marksman is no stranger to the fixture against Les Verts.
The forward’s record against ASSE is rather mixed. Lacazette has been on the winning side more often than not – experiencing 6 victories. However, he has also suffered 4 defeats whilst involved in the fixture. The 33-year-old has scored 5 goals in 12 appearances against Saint Étienne. Commenting on the fixture, the OL captain said, “I am excited to play in the derby. It will be my first at the Grouopama Stadium. I can’t wait.”
