Manchester City midfielder Rodri admits watching his side struggle in his absence has been very difficult.

The midfielder has been missing since the earlier season draw with Arsenal after suffering an ACL injury.

City have faltered in his absence, finishing 22nd in the Champions League table and slipping to fifth in the Premier League table.

Rodri was in attendance at the Super Bowl and speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “No, I don’t deal good with that,” when asked how he has found watching it from the stands.

“You’re more nervous, you cannot control what’s going on. But yes, I try to support my team from the outside, give them my vision and help them.”

The 28-year-old is expected to be out for the entire season, although City fans were given a glimmer of hope after he was kept in the squad for the Champions League knockouts.

Reflecting on his injury, the Ballon D’Or winner said: “Well, I always say, it’s part of life. Injuries, athletes are used to these kind of things.

“But I’m a very positive guy in the sense that I take it what it is. I always thank God for everything and in these kind of moments try and be positive.

“And maybe do other stuff that I’m not used to doing, like coming here, spending more time with your family and why not try to improve other parts of your body, work on that and come back stronger.”

City boss Pep Guardiola was dealt a further blow ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid with new signing Nico Gonzalez having picked up an injury against Leyton Orient, which could rule him out of the game.

Gonzalez was signed to fill the void left by Rodri in the short-term but Guardiola was uncertain whether he will be recovered in time.
