Sheffield United have had a fantastic start to the season, and they have started December at the top of the Championship table.

The Blades' 1-0 win over Sunderland on Friday evening sent them back to the summit, and with Leeds United losing to Blackburn Rovers the day after, they are now two points clear of Burnley.

Chris Wilder has enjoyed an excellent November, one that saw his team win all but one of their six matches, a run that has seen them extend their unbeaten streak to seven. However, with the January transfer window coming up, there could be a need for the 57-year-old to bring in new faces at Bramall Lane.

But, with Sheffield United performing so well, they have been warned against overspending and instead have been told to work with what they have.

Sheffield United urged to have a quieter January transfer window

The Blades, Burnley and West Bromwich Albion are the only three sides to have lost two games this season, and their defensive strength must be praised.

Therefore, it seems unlikely that Wilder will change too much at the back in the upcoming window, and instead, if any moves are to be made, they will be aimed at the midfield - especially after Oli Arblaster's ACL injury.

However, Football League World's Sheffield United Fan Pundit, Jimmy from Blades Ramble, has warned his team against overspending in January.

When asked by FLW if he expects the Yorkshire club to spend a lot next month, he said: "I don’t think, certainly if we’re under the same ownership, I don't see us spending, I won't say any money, but we certainly won't be spending big money in January.

"I think it's there in case of an emergency. I think if we lose another midfielder, for example, and can't get one on loan, and we have to purchase someone, then we can do that as a club. I think it's very unlikely that we'll go out and spend big, and I don't think it's always wise to spend big in January either, because it's such a congested market."

Jimmy continued: "I think we will use one of the two loans, hopefully both, but only if it's needed. So, we'll wait and see what the manager wants to do. I'm sure he wants to use both loans and sign three or four players, but being sensible, I think we'll probably use our 2 loan spots and then just see how the land lies in terms of squad fitness and availability."

Sheffield United must only bring in who is needed

Although they are top of the league, there could be a desire to bring in new stars to help make that final push for the Premier League in January.

However, this would not be advisable at Sheffield United, especially considering just how tight-knit their current squad is. There is a perfect blend of youth and experience in this current side, and bringing in a group of new players could disrupt the feel-good factor that surrounds Bramall Lane.

Tom Davies' return from injury allows further cover in midfield, although bringing Tyler Morton in on loan would be a good deal to help replace Arblaster.

It seems incredibly unlikely that under their current ownership they will spend heavily, and that must be seen as a positive, as those around them may distract themselves in the market battling it out for players to help catch up to the Blades.
