Mohamed Salah signing a new Liverpool deal will come down to whether the Anfield club are willing to meet his expectations, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The Egypt international forward revealed on Sunday that he is closer to leaving as a free agent at the end of the season than staying.
While talks have indeed been positive between both parties, Ornstein claims Salah has not been offered a formal deal yet.
However, the journalist believes Liverpool and their star player will eventually reach an agreement over an extension.
“It’s clear Salah wants to stay at LFC & vice versa,” he wrote on Threads.
“But it will come down to whether LFC will/can meet his expectations. I hear talks are positive, even if no formal offer has landed to date.
“This is not as simple as it might seem & there are many factors – but Salah remains world-class on the pitch. Plus, he is showing no sign of slowing.
“His conduct off-field is said to be exemplary, and he’d surely have his pick of clubs if he were on the market. Personal opinion? They eventually reach an agreement to renew.”
Losing Salah for free is the last thing Liverpool want right now given his incredible form, but both parties may need to reach a compromise if their working relationship is to continue.
The length of the contract and fresh terms have likely been the bone of contention, and the 32-year-old and his agent have to see things from the Reds’s perspective.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot will struggle to replace Salah given that he is a generational talent, and he will be praying for good news in the next few weeks.
