Queens Park Rangers spent a reasonable amount of money during the summer transfer window, so it remains to be seen whether they have enough left in their budget to make further signings in January.

The R's have endured a difficult start to the 2024/25 campaign and currently find themselves inside the relegation zone in the Championship ahead of important back-to-back home games against Norwich City and Oxford United.

Marti Cifuentes will hope that his side can carry forward the momentum they will have gained after taking four points from their trips to Cardiff City and Watford last week, with the performance at Vicarage Road having arguably also been worthy of victory.

Rangers must ensure that they are suitably prepared for the relegation battle that they could well find themselves in during the second half of the season, so it will be interesting to see what business they are able to complete when the upcoming January transfer window opens.

QPR may not have much money to spend in January

We asked our QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, if he could see the club spending a lot of money during the January transfer window, but he expressed concern over whether the budget would be there for Cifuentes to make the necessary additions to his squad.

"I just can't see a world where we are going to spend more of the budget, if there is any budget left," said Louis.

"Obviously, in the summer, we spent a lot more due to FFP restrictions loosening, and we haven't really spent anything in recent years, so that was the first time we spent a bit, to be fair.

"Certain players like Madsen, Celar, Varane - these players cost a few million. I might be wrong, there might be a bit of budget left, but I just can't see it, so we may have to be looking at the loan market.

"We need a couple more loans, I think. It's not always a bad thing if you've got a few loans in the squad, and then obviously there is the free agent market, but I'm not too sure how much quality is out there.

"I'd be very surprised if we spent money after the summer window we had, but if we are still in the position we are in now, the loans or frees might not be good enough, and we might have to spend some money, but I can't see it happening personally."

QPR will want to build on their recent form

QPR's victory over Cardiff ended a run of 12 games without a win in the Championship, and after the goalless draw at Watford, they now find themselves on a three-match unbeaten run.

After Zan Celar got off the mark for the season with a brace against the Bluebirds, he seemed to have found his confidence and was slightly unlucky not to score the winner against the Hornets when his effort struck the post late on. The Slovenian could help his side climb the table if he can prove his doubters wrong in the coming weeks.

If the Hoops can consistently pick up points during their busy schedule in the lead-up to January, and the performances of their current players continue to improve, it will take the pressure off during the transfer window and give them the platform to kick on during the new year.
