“I like him” – Joe Cole backs unpopular player who he says could leave this summer

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has had a tough time since arriving at Chelsea in the summer, and his excellent goal last night was a definite high point for him.
Within 6 months of him arriving at Chelsea there were already rumours about him leaving, and he’s struggled for games even with the Conference League on the table. One person who still believes is Joe Cole, who had some really nice things to say about the midfielder:
“I’m really pleased for him. We’ve watched him in this competition. Every game he’s affected the game. He’s done something in every game where you go he’s a player. I think there is a future for him at Chelsea,” Cole said on TNT Sport last night.
“He’s too good a player to be playing 10, 15 games at his age… He needs to play football because he’s such a good talented footballer. The decision will probably be his at the end of the season. What does he do? Does he go find his football somewhere else, or does he stick it out? Every time I watch him I like him. As a manager, you’d want him in your team. I think he can play at a very, very high level.”

This highly positive outlook doesn’t line up with a lot of what Chelsea fans have been saying since Dewsbury-Hall arrived, but it did match Cole’s equally positive comments pre-game where he said that manager Enzo Maresca had been doing a “brilliant” job under difficult circumstances – something many Blues fans would also not agree with.
Still, with negativity abounding, it’s nice to have a positive take from a Chelsea-related figure. Let’s hope he’s proved to be correct, both on Maresca and KDH, in the long run.
