Coventry City are taking an interest in Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield as they search for a replacement for Mark Robins who has been sacked.

Robins was dismissed by Coventry City after their 2-1 home defeat to Derby County on Wednesday night, a result that left them 17th in the Championship table.

It means that Coventry are looking for a new boss after Robins' seven-and-half years at the helm, and whoever is appointed will have big boots to fill after he led the Sky Blues from League Two to the Championship, and were just one win away from promotion to the Premier League in 2023.

Bloomfield, who has taken Wycombe to the summit of the League One table, has attracted the interest of Coventry, as per The Guardian, with the 40-year-old seen as one of the best young managers in the EFL.

Coventry City, Matt Bloomfield verdict emerges

We asked our Coventry City fan pundit, Ryan Murphy, whether he'd welcome a move for Bloomfield, and appointing a promising young manager is a route he'd like to see the Sky Blues take.

Speaking to Football League World, Ryan said: "Matt Bloomfield is someone I don’t honestly know too much about other than that he’s doing a cracking job this season, flying high with Wycombe - they’re top of the league right now.

“He would be someone I would expect the club to go for over taking the route of risk of someone like Frank Lampard, just because they’ve got a name doesn’t mean they’re going to be great, especially in a situation like this where we need someone to come in and hit the ground running and work on a budget.

“Someone like Matt Bloomfield might be the person that they think can do that, so that wouldn’t surprise me, looking down at the league below and looking at someone doing a good job at present rather than going down the big name route which would bring me more risk.

“So yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me, and I’d welcome it for sure.”

Matt Bloomfield deserves a chance at Championship management

It's only the start of November, but Bloomfield has Wycombe top of the League One table, above clubs with huge budgets like Wrexham and Birmingham City, although Blues do have a game in hand, but it's still an impressive achievement.

Bloomfield recently masterminded his side to an impressive 5-0 win away to Stockport County, a result which really made people sit-up and take notice of the successful season they're having so far, and it's no surprise he's attracting Championship interest.

He may be early into his managerial career, having been appointed to his first job at Colchester United just over two years ago, but during his time with Colchester, and now Wycombe, he's proved that he's a bright young manager.

Bloomfield is a Wycombe legend thanks to his time as both a player and now as a manager, and it remains to be seen if he'd want to leave a club that are top of the league, but he certainly deserves the chance of becoming a Championship manager given the way the season has started.
