John Obi Mikel has backed Chelsea to win the Premier League  before Arsenal if the Blues do two things in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea sit fourth, six points behind the Gunners with the London rivals set to meet at the Emirates in a huge game on Sunday afternoon.

However, there’s still plenty to play for this season with the Blues looking to win the Conference League and qualify for the Champions League, which is now Arsenal’s only chance of a trophy.

Mikel backs Chelsea to win the league before Arsenal

Chelsea have invested heavily in their squad since the takeover by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital three years ago, but are still waiting for their first trophy and title challenge under the new ownership.

The Blues started the season really well and found themselves second at Christmas, and very much in the title conversation, but their form has dipped since then.

Chelsea haven’t won the Premier League since 2017 under Antonio Conte, and with the money invested they should at the bare minimum be competing right now.

Arsenal have gone close over the past two seasons, but have dropped off this campaign and Mikel has backed Chelsea to win the league before the Gunners as long as they do two things in the summer window.

“We know where we have to strengthen, everybody knows,” he told The Obi One Podcast.

“If we do that with the squad we have right now, get another top striker to help Nicolas Jackson, now he’s injured, we’re struggling to score goals, healthy competition is so important.

“If we get another top, top striker to create healthy competition between the two strikers, listen, we will be competing to win the league and another top goalkeeper.

“Every team that wins the Premier League has one, you have to have a top, top goalkeeper that the players will look at and know my goal is well secured.

Chelsea are said to be leading the race for Liam Delap, whilst they’ve also been linked with Borussia Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel.
