A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Thursday spoken out over his future with the club.

The player in question? Marc-André ter Stegen.

Shot-stopper Ter Stegen, for his part, is in the midst of an altogether exciting week from a personal standpoint.

As much comes with the retirement of Manuel Neuer from international football having culminated in the 32-year-old, at long last, being named the German national team’s no.1.

Ahead of his first outing as the official first-choice between the posts for Die Mannschaft this weekend, Ter Stegen, on Thursday, in turn took his place in front of the media.

And, as part of as much, the former Borussia Monchengladbach man was drawn on his future at club level, too.

Ter Stegen has maintained his position as Barcelona’s no.1 over the early weeks of the new season, following the arrival of fellow countryman Hansi Flick.

When asked about his long-term plans at club level this afternoon, though, Ter Stegen admitted that, whilst he remains ‘very happy’ with his situation at the Camp Nou, ‘nobody knows what will happen’ down the line:

“I have a relatively long contract with my club and I am very happy there. My family is very happy in Catalonia and now we are looking forward to the season.

“I think it’s good for me to focus on the present and the near future. Nobody knows what will happen in the future. But overall I’m very happy at the moment with my situation and with the club I’ve been playing for for more than a decade.”
